Mamma Mia Response

Mamma Mia Review On Friday, February 28, 2020, I saw the Cheshire Academy Varsity Players’ rendition of Mamma Mia by Cathrine Johnson. This musical was directed by Ms. Guarino and starred Elena Parkerson, Audra Foli, and Jackson Rafferty. It was held in the Black Box Theater in the Field House on Cheshire Academy’s campus.  As stated in the Director's Note, the main theme of this musical was “Fun, Fun, Fun!” The Black Box was full of color, brightness, upbeat music, silly characters, and whimsical choreography. In this musical, the main character, Donna, has a daughter named Sophie that is getting married. Before she gets married, she wants to find out who her father is. There are three possible candidates; Sam, Harry, and Bill. Without Donna knowing, Sophie invites all three of them to the wedding to find out which one is her true father. Ruth seems to be packing up boxes to move to the new house Ruth tells beneatha how she and walter went to the movies for the first time in a long time last night Walter enters the room, and they start dancing A white man enters He is from a committee from clayborn park, came to discuss the fact that there have been problems with colored people He is saying that them negros should stay in their own area and that it isn’t a good idea for them to move somewhere they aren’t wanted Mama enters, beneatha, and ruth tell mama what happened They all have a gift for mama A black man enters He seems nervous, talking about moving money around to get a liquor license He says Willie never showed up to the station Walter gave his money to willie, and willie, disappeared with the money Walter and beneatha’s money is gone Mama is furious Asagai enters Beneatha tells him about the money Beneatha tells a story of why she wanted to be a nurse Asagai spills out his dreams...

ARITS Act 2 Scene 2

George and beneatha enters George is angry Mama enters Ms. Johnson enters and visits with Mama Ms. Johnson makes fun of Ruth being pregnant and for Beneatha being the only one to make a name for herself Walter’s job is being threatened Walter hasn’t been to work in days He’s been sight seeing all this time Mama gives walter part of the money from her dead husband  She wants walter to be the head of the family Walter is excited  Travis enters, confused why walter is so happy Travis says he wants to be a bus driver when he’s older Travis is confused why his dad treats him so good sometimes and so bad sometimes Walter explains to travis his dream of being an executive and how life is going to be different when he turns 18

ARITS Act 2 Scene 1

scene starts with ruth and beneatha walter comes home drunk George enters walter talks about what he wants for his life with george walter and ruth continue to fight walter and ruth make up mama comes home from downtown travis comes home and ruth is angry mama bought a house with the money the house is in a white neighborhood walter storms out on mama.

Ruth is pregnant Ruth is thinking about getting an abortion and has already seen a doctor about it without telling Walter Mama wants to keep the baby because she is very religious Walter is told that Mama is not going to give the $10,000 to him to start a liquor store. Instead, the money is going to be used to help support the family. Beneatha just enjoys keeping the argument going, she does not really play a specific side of the argument
